While traveling north through southeastern Wyoming, I took WY-210 (Happy Jack Road)<\/strong> instead of heading straight to I-80. I wasn\u2019t intentionally scouting or exploring \u2014 I was just driving and paying attention \u2014 but the number of potential access points along this corridor stood out enough that it was worth logging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This post is not a guide. It\u2019s a set of notes for future reference<\/strong> so I don\u2019t forget what I saw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WY-210 (Happy Jack Road)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The WY-210 corridor sits between Cheyenne and Laramie and runs along the southern edge of the Medicine Bow National Forest. What stood out immediately was how close everything is to major routes<\/strong>, while still feeling remote once you pull off the pavement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While driving this stretch, the following areas caught my attention as potential camping, access, or future exploration points:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • North Crow Reservoir area<\/strong>
    Multiple pullouts and open areas near the reservoir with adjacent public land.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Vedauwoo Road (FS 700) \u2014 north access<\/strong>
    Entered from the northern side. Gate was open at the time and the road was clear at entry. Confirms an alternate way into the broader Vedauwoo area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Pole Mountain pullout<\/strong>
    An accessible, scenic pullout that immediately stood out as a place worth revisiting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Telephone Road<\/strong>
    Noted as another access road branching off the corridor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Pilot Hill Road<\/strong>
    Another signed access point worth a closer look later.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Happy Jack Recreation Area<\/strong>
    Entrance signage noted while passing through.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    None of these were explored in detail on this pass \u2014 they were simply logged as places that looked promising enough to warrant a return visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Unexpected Convenience: I-80 Westbound Rest Area<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Just before merging onto I-80 west toward Laramie, I noticed a westbound rest area that I hadn\u2019t previously known about. Its proximity to the WY-210 corridor makes it a useful reference point for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • rest<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • weather delays<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • emergency or fallback overnights<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      It reinforced how well-positioned this entire corridor is relative to major travel routes<\/strong>, even in winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Why this is logged here<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      This area feels like one of those places that\u2019s easy to overlook if you\u2019re just transiting between Cheyenne and Laramie. Seeing it in winter, with roads open and access points clearly visible, made it worth flagging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
